Another Comic

Finding a huge pile of comics at the used book store and hurting my back will no doubt lead to my posting a lot of comics in a bit. ;-)  Here is the first one.

One book in August

I think the name was Finding Rest, but I can't find the paper I'd written it on.  I'll update later, if I ever do figure it out.

"Choosing Rest", by Sally Breedlove.   All I could remember of the author's name was the S and B, and that the last name was a compound word. ;-)  No wonder I couldn't find it!

A couple things that stood out to me from this book:

(a man who had lost his wife, daughter and mother in a car wreck)"the quickest way for anyone to reach the sun and the light of day is not to run west, chasing after the setting sun, but to head east, plunging into the darkness until one comes to the sunrise."

and also - the difference God's true rest and our "rest"

"Recreation is the state of being re-created.  It is something we do or choose that fills our soul and body so that we are stronger and richer as a result.  Recreation nurtures us.  Amusement, on the other hand, literally means 'to not think'.  When we choose amusement we shut down, we disengage.  Even more pointed is the ancient meaning of amusement; "to deceive".

City of Thieves

You know what it takes to get me to read a novel....this one was interesting enough. ;)  The fact that the author used The 900 Days to research for his writing, and I haven't *quite* managed to finish it yet no doubt had something to do with my finding this one interesting.  250-some pages is easier reading than a million or so. ;)

Voices of War

I enjoyed this book very much, although it seems odd to say that about a book filled with war stories.  None of the stories were very graphic, though, and most were about the getting to war, or waiting for something to happen, or avoiding getting hit, than about the actual fighting.  Stories from WW1 and WW2, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War.

Holocaust Forgotten

A short, but interesting look at the five million "other" victims of Hitler's reign of terror.
